Swansea City Under-21s suffered a second consecutive defeat in the Premier League Cup against Fleetwood Town at the Joma High Performance Centre.

Swansea opened the scoring through Sammy Henia-Kamau from close-range, but two goals in five minutes from the young Cods had them 2-1 up at the break.

And Owen Devonport grabbed his second goal in the 50th minute to further extend the Cods' advantage before substiute Nzingo pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining, but it was only a consolation.

There was just the one change from the 3-3 draw against Brentford last time out with Evan Watts replacing Ben Hughes between the sticks.

Aimar Govea and Nzingo came back into the squad on the bench following their international duties with Ecuador and the Republic of Ireland respectively.

Fleetwood Town had the first chance of the evening after a quick counter allowed Crispin McLean to be played in curling his strike just wide.

Down the other end, Morgan Bates almost clinched his second goal at under-21s level when he was picked out by Ben Lloyd in the box, firing an effort at goal for it to force a one-handed save from Oliver Bellizia.

Morgan Bates was set up perfectly again, this time by Zac Jeanes from the right, only for his header to go over the crossbar.

But the breakthrough for the Swans came on the 20th-minute mark and it was Henia-Kamau with his second goal in as many games.

Lloyd provided again from the left, and Henia-Kamau's touch deflected off the post and over the line for the opener.

And the striker nearly went for a second goal not long after. Henia-Kamau couldn't quite connect with Jeanes' high ball before he had a shot blocked by Bellizia.

However, the visitors were level 15 minutes later. The Fleetwood skipper Devonport heading home at the back post.

The Cods took the lead not long after Rylee Wilkinson was played in from close range which had the visitors on top at break.

Fleetwood came out in the second period with confidence and further extended their lead, and it was the skipper Devonport with his second of the evening with a tight-angle finish into the bottom corner.

The Swans were creating plenty of chances, and Lloyd had two back-to-back efforts denied by Bellizia.

The visitors' advantage was reduced to one goal after substitute Nzingo tapped the ball in from inside the six-yard box.

And Swansea went close through Josh Pescatore, Sebastian Dabrowski and Aimar Govea in the closing stages, but the Fishermen's defence kept them at bay.
