Aidan Higgins' goal wasn't enough as two first-half strikes from Wigan Athletic meant defeat for Swansea City Under-18s at Landore.

Wigan opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a low shot from striker Oscar Harris, with Harrison Bettoni putting them two goals to the good shortly after.

Higgins pulled one back for the hosts following the restart, but they were unable to find a leveller.

Both sides enjoyed periods of possession in the opening 10 minutes. The Swans had their first chance when Higgins saw a shot blocked from outside the box.

Down the other end, the Latics broke free down the right before Christy Edwards sliced a long-range effort just wide of the woodwork.

However, the visitors got the breakthrough on the counter not long after. John-Paul Cavanagh found Harris in space and the striker drilled the ball into the back of the net.

The Swans went in search of an equaliser. Morgan Bates sent in a firm shot that forced the Wigan stopper to palm away, but no-one was there to fire in the rebound.

Wigan doubled their lead through Bettoni less than 10 minutes later. Harris turned provider for his teammate, and Bettoni finished the move off with a curling effort.

Sam Seager produced a brilliant two-handed save to deny yet another strike from Bettoni before the Swans had another chance through Bates.

Ramon Rees-Siso

New scholar Wahab Ojetoro was introduced after the break in place of Josh Pescatore, whilst Caio Ifans made a return to the pitch following an injury sustained in April.

And the Swans got themselves back in the game, Higgins getting his second goal in as many appearances.

The young Swans didn't stop coming forward after pulling one back. Both Ramon Rees-Siso and Bates saw efforts denied from promising positions within the area.

It was almost 2-2 when Rees-Siso's free-kick found its way through the Wigan wall, but it was agonisingly cleared off the line.

Rees-Siso soon threatened the visiting defence again when he curled a strike just wide from a tight angle, before Ifans fired over the bar as Swansea's search for a point came up short.
