Swansea City Under-18s suffered defeat to Burnley Under-18s in the Professional Development League at Landore.

A goal inside the first minute from forward Benji Wetshi, a second-half brace from Lucas Wane and a Brandon Ly stunner saw the Clarets claim a comfortable victory. 

Sammy Henia Kamau scored late on for the Swans with a close-range finish but it was a mere consolation.

The Swans also had a Brogan Popham goal disallowed late on due to an offside in the build-up, but they could have few complaints about the final outcome.

Coach Jarred Harvey made a couple of changes from last week’s win at Fleetwood with Jack Fanning and Jacob Cook coming in for Yori Griffith and Thomas Woodward respectively.

But the hosts endured a difficult start as a miscommunication in defence allowed Wetshi to pounce on a loose ball and drill a shot into the bottom corner.

Wane nearly added a second for the Clarets 10 minutes later when his free-kick rattled the crossbar, but the Swans responded as Josh Pescatore worked room for a shot that was deflected wide.

Iestyn Jones blocked another Wane effort shortly before the Swans came agonisingly close to an equaliser. 

A goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall for Henia-Kamau, but he had a pair of efforts kept out by covering defenders.

Ramon Rees-Siso’s long-distance effort flew over the bar before Burnley keeper Jon Vilar Robinson saved from Henia-Kamau as the Swans had a better spell.

However, Wetshi could have doubled the visitors’ lead early in the second half, only to clear the crossbar with his final effort.

Wane had a header saved by Kit Margetson, and then flashed an effort wide when the ball came back to him off the post.

The away side turned their dominance of the second period into a goal just after the hour mark, doubling their lead through Ly, who beat his man and unleashed a fantastic curling effort from distance that flew into the top corner.

Swansea thought they had pulled a goal back through Popham, only for the offside flag to quickly be raised, and Burnley made the most of the let-off to sweep up the other end as Wane’s corner beat Margetson and rolled into the net.

The Clarets added a fourth goal just before the final whistle when Wane scored from the spot, after Jones had fouled Albert Blackie inside the box.

But the Swans did score a consolation goal during added time through Henia-Kamau.
