Swansea City Under-18s suffered a home defeat against Cardiff City Under-18s in their Professional Development League Cup clash at Landore.
Thanks to a Japhet Mpadi brace and a fine finish from Joel Colwill from the spot, the Bluebirds extended their lead at the top of Group A, whilst the Swans’ academy side are still seeking their first point in the competition.
The visitors extended their 100% winning record in the competition, following previous wins over Bristol City and Watford.
Darren Davies’ side had enjoyed a good start to the contest as Charlie Veevers looked to find Ben Lloyd through on goal, but his pass was chipped away by the visitors for a Swansea corner.
But it was at the 10-minute mark that the Bluebirds opened the scoring, as Cian Ashford sneaked past keeper Tyler Evans in the box to set up Mpadi who tapped the ball into the back of the net.
The visitors nearly doubled their advantage shortly after as James Crole found space in the box but his shot was superbly blocked by Evans and the ball flew away for a Cardiff corner.
Approaching the half-hour mark, Swansea continued to push for an equaliser as they continued to cause trouble in the Bluebirds box.
Sixteen-year-old Lloyd made an excellent run through on goal on the end of a Filip Lassah cross, but his effort went narrowly wide and behind for a goal-kick.
Just moments before the break, a promising pass from Lloyd found Geoff Bony on the edge of the area but his effort rippled the side netting from a difficult angle.
Captain Joshua Edwards’ game came to an end just after the restart as the midfielder went down injured, thankfully he was back on his feet after receiving treatment, but he was taken off as a precaution and was replaced by Jack Cooper.
Substitute Iwan Morgan made an immediate impact on the attack, as the striker dribbled his way through the Cardiff defence, but his shot was parried away by the keeper.
And Swansea were made to pay for making the most of a good spell as Mpadi scored his second of the afternoon after latching on to a loose ball in the middle, firing his low effort straight down the middle.
The Bluebirds added a third goal to their tally thanks to Colwill who won his side a penalty, who then slotted home for the visitors from the spot after being brought down bypassing the Swansea defence on the edge of the area.
Swansea pushed until the very end with Lissah and Seb Dabrowski causing danger on the wings and in front of goal but there was no way back for the hosts.
