Report | Swansea City Ladies 5 Abergavenny Women 0
Swansea City Ladies made it back-to-back league wins over Abergavenny Women with an emphatic victory at Llandarcy.
Stacey John-Davis and Nia Rees netted twice for the hosts, with Katy Hosford also on the scoresheet in a dominant Swans performance.
The win saw the Swans return to winning ways following elimination from the Genero Adran Trophy at the weekend.
The hosts were dominant throughout as they backed up their 3-1 win against the same opposition in their previous league game.
John-Davis looked dangerous from the opening minutes of the game, heading a ball from Ellie Lake just wide of the post after five minutes.
Just three minutes later John-Davis would come even closer, winning the ball back from the Abergavenny defence before bursting into the box and rounding the goalkeeper, but her shot was cleared off the line.
But her much deserved goal would soon arrive five, the striker cutting onto her left foot on the edge of the box before firing past the keeper for her first goal since returning from a collarbone injury.
The Swans dominance continued, Rees doubling the lead after she was played in by Hosford before firing a shot past the goalkeeper.
Hosford thought she had made it three not long after, her excellent touch putting her through on goal before lobbing the goalkeeper, but her effort would bounce out off the inside of the post.
John-Davis would have yet another shot cleared off the line, the forward dribbling through the Abergavenny defence to chip the goalkeeper, but the visitors defence was on hand once again to prevent the ball finding the back of the net.
Nieve Jenkins almost continued her fine run of goal scoring form just before the break, Hosford’s corner fell to the left-back at the near post, but she could only put her powerful effort just wide.
Swansea picked up where they had left off at the start of the second half, Hosford striking the crossbar from distance.
But the home side’s third goal would soon arrive.
A great ball from John-Davis sent Rees through to roll the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper.
Just five minutes later Hosford would find the net. A great ball from Jess Williams sprung the offside trap and Hosford showed a deft touch to lob the keeper.
And John-Davis would round off the scoring by completing her brace.
The striker twisted and turned in the box before dispatching the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.
Williams came close to making it six, as she rattled the crossbar with her free-kick, before John-Davis just failed to complete her hat-trick as a Jenkins cross proved just too strong for her to get a touch on.
But it made no difference to the final outcome as the Swans claimed a handsome win.
