Report: Swans U23s 1 Manchester City U23s 4
Rabbi Matondo scored a hat-trick as Swansea City Under-23s were condemned to a 4-1 defeat by an inspired Manchester City.
The young Swans saw their three-match unbeaten run come to an end despite matching their opponents for the opening 74 minutes at Landore.
The visitors found another gear during the latter stages of the contest, in which they scored three times on the way to going top of Premier League 2.
Paul Harsley’s side took the lead in the 38th minute following a devastating counter-attack, with Matondo finishing after Tom Dele-Bashiru’s assist.
However, the Swans responded within two minutes as Kees de Boer found Aaron Lewis, who curled home from just inside the penalty area for his second goal in four games.
The hosts looked to build on their momentum after the break, but were unable to turn their possession and territory into meaningful chances on goal.
That proved costly as, in the 74th minute, Matondo grabbed his second after latching onto Ian Poveda’s precise through ball.
Jeremie Frimpong added a third shortly afterwards, before Matondo completed his hat-trick in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
The young Swans will be aiming to bounce back on Thursday, when they face Oxford United in their opening match of this season’s Premier League Cup.
