Katy Hosford vs Pontypridd away

Swansea City Ladies began 2023 with a win as goals from Katy Hosford and Jess Williams earned them victory at Pontypridd United Women.

Hosford put the Swans ahead in the first half, firing a 30-yard strike over the head of the Pontypridd goalkeeper to break the deadlock.

Williams doubled the lead with 10 minutes to go, Hosford turning provider as her delivery was glanced home.

Despite a six-week break since their last game, the Swans came out the blocks strongly, with Stacey John-Davis’ shot in the fourth minute forcing a good save from the Pontypridd goalkeeper.

Emma Beynon also tested the Pontypridd keeper just six minutes later, her long distance strike being parried away.

Just before the break, Nieve Jenkins came close to finding the opener, a great ball from Kelly Adams sending her down the flank before Jenkins cut inside onto her right foot and forced Maisie Jones into a great save.

But the Swans would break the deadlock before half-time, Hosford firing a stunning strike from 30 yards out to beat the goalkeeper.

The Swans continued to plug away as they looked to extend their lead in the second half, John-Davis doing well to break through the Pontypridd defence before chipping just wide.

But the Swans would find their second 10 minutes from time, Hosford’s great delivery finding the head of Williams who glanced home.

Hosford almost had her second just before full time, Gwen Horgan sending the forward through, but she couldn’t poke her effort past the goalkeeper.
