Swansea City Under-21s got their Premier League Cup campaign off to a flying start with a dominant victory over Fleetwood Town.

The Swans were two goals to the good at the break thanks to Sebastian Dabrowski and Ben Lloyd, with the hosts missing a penalty in between.

Four further goals came in the second half for the visitors. Glory Nzingo made it three on the hour mark before Kyrell Wilson bagged a quickfire brace and Lloyd netted his second of the afternoon.

There were a number of welcome returns from injury for the Swans. Sam Parker, Richard Faakye and Sammy Henia-Kamau were all handed starts after time on the sidelines.

Aimar Govea and Wilson also made their first appearances of the season from the bench.

The first big chance of the game fell to the visitors when Parker flashed the ball across goal, but no-one in a Swans shirt was there to tap home.

It didn’t take long for the Swans to open the scoring, however, as Dabrowski headed home from a Dan Watts corner-kick.

The hosts sought a quick response and Swansea keeper Evan Watts was called into action when Owen Davenport fashioned an effort that the Wales youth international dealt with well.

And Fleetwood looked set to level in the 20th minute when forward Theo Williams was brought down in the box, winning a penalty for the Cods.

But Davenport failed to convert from the spot after his shot struck the woodwork.

Instead Swansea doubled their advantage before half-time. Lloyd was set up by Faakye and the Welshman raced to the edge of the box before curling a lovely strike into the top corner.

After the restart, Govea and Wilson were introduced in place of Parker and Henia-Kamau.

And Govea set up the third goal of the afternoon with a slick low ball to Nzingo, who tapped home for his fourth goal of the season.

The goals kept coming for the visitors, and this time Wilson was on the scoresheet. Josh Pescatore, who played 45 minutes with the under-18s on Saturday, sent a superb pass through the defence for Wilson to drive the ball home.

It wasn’t long before Wilson had his second. Faakye was the provider again with a high ball over the top finding his teammate, and the forward calmly finished the move off.

Lloyd went on to wrap things up with seven minutes remaining. His first-time shot deflected off the Cods’ keeper, but he made sure to fire home the rebound from close range.
