Swansea City Under-21s were narrowly defeated on the road against Coventry City in their penultimate away trip of the campaign.

Rylie Siddell opened the scoring in the 20th minute before a an own goal six minutes into the second half had the hosts two goals to the good.

A Trialist halved the deficit with 20 minutes to go with a lovely finish, but it wasn't enough to salvage a point for the Swans.

The Swans had been forced into a late change before kick-off with Harlan Parry coming in for Zac Jeanes in the middle of the park.

It proved an even start, with Swansea keeper Kit Margetson pushing away a low Siddell effort, while a last-ditch challenge denied Thomas Woodward a shot at goal at the other end.

The Coventry keeper then made a good stop to prevent Morgan Bates opening the scoring after he had won possession and raced towards goal.

But the hosts would break the deadlock in the 20th minute after a quick attack down the right. Iestyn Jones blocked the initial shot, but Siddell latched onto the rebound and stuck the ball into the bottom corner.

Swansea looked to respond almost immediately after Jacob Cook's delivery found Perry in space down the left, the latter lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper but it was cleared off the line by a Coventry defender.

Margetson was soon busy in between the sticks again as he raced off his line to deny Siddall a second goal, with Jones and Arthur Parker clearing the danger in the aftermath.

The Sky Blues retained their lead at the interval and were in control in the opening stages of the second period.

They were rewarded with another goal within six minutes of the secondhalf, through an own goal.

There was a chance to pull one back for the Swans not long after as Perry's low cross looked to find the sliding Woodward, but he could not direct the ball on target.

However, the Swans trialist pulled a goal back with a fine finish from the left, cutting inside to send a right-footed finish into the far corner of the net.

In the closing stages another strong one-handed save from Margetson, denied Charlie Finney, before Daniel Rachel also pulled off an excellent stop down the other end, with the trialist volleying the rebound high and wide as the Swans spurned the final chance to snatch a point.
