Report | Charlton Athletic U18s 2 Swansea City U18s 1
Swansea City Under-18s were narrowly defeated on their travels as Charlton Athletic came from a goal down to win at Sparrows Lane.
Callum Jones topped off his first start for the under-18s with a maiden goal, opening the scoring for the visitors just eight minutes into the contest after being picked out by Aimar Govea.
But the Addicks went on to score either side of the break thanks to Micah Mbick and Ibrihim Fullah to complete their comeback and claim their third consecutive league victory.
It leaves the Swans still looking for a win on the road in 2024, with the Professional Development League Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United next to come for the youngsters on February 6.
Jones - part of the under-16s’ squad - made his first start for the upper-age group, following two previous substitute appearances, whilst Ramon Rees-Siso returned to the starting 11 for the first time since August.
Harlan Perry and Thomas Searle also came into the starting line-up after being named on the bench in Wednesday's FA Youth Cup fixture.
It was a bright opening from the Swans, and they got the morning off to a flying start.
And it was Jones who found the net. Iestyn Jones worked the ball well to get Govea one-on-one with his marker before crossing the ball to Jones, who finished calmly at the back post.
However, Mbick would level the score before the break after the forward was left in space on the edge of the area before curling a strike into the top corner.
The young Swans started the second period with intensity, with Thomas Woodward and Govea having missed chances.
But Charlton snatched the three points after a scramble for the ball in the box saw it land at Fullah's feet for him to slot a low effort into the bottom corner.
