Women
Danielle Broadhurst v Cardiff Met

Swansea City Women opened their Genero Adran Premier campaign on a winning note after coming from behind to beat Cardiff Met Women.

Chelsea Cochrane has given Met the lead after four minutes, cutting inside on the edge of the box before firing into the top corner.

But the Swans would be level seven minutes later, Danielle Broadhurst netting on her debut.

Just before the break the Swans would take a lead they would not relinquish as Stacey John-Davis beat the goalkeeper from distance.

It ensures the Swans took all three points from Jamie Sherwood’s first game in charge, and sets them up for their return to the Swansea.com Stadium when they face Barry Town United next Sunday.

Sherwood handed three Swans players their first starts as Nia Jones, Taite Trivett and Broadhurst all made the XI for their debuts.

The hosts took the lead early on, Cochrane worked space for herself around 18 yards out before sending a curling effort sailing into the top corner.

Jess Williams almost levelled immediately. Trivett's corner picked out the defender in the box, but her back heeled effort was pushed on to the post.

But two minutes later the Swans would equalise when Robyn Pinder's long-range effort was fumbled by the Cardiff Met goalkeeper, allowing Broadhurst to follow up and tap home her first goal for the club.

The visitors came forward again and Sophie Brisland-Hancocks found a pocket of space on the edge of the Cardiff Met box following a set-piece, but her effort whistled past the post.

Just before the half-time whistle, John-Davis would put the Swans in front. Her chipped effort from distance going over the keeper’s head to find the back of the net.

The second half proved to be a more cagey affair, with the two teams struggling to create clear-cut chances.

Swans keeper Claire Skinner would be called into action when she cleared well to deny a home counter-attack, and then recovered to keep out an attempted follow-up lob.

John-Davis then almost had her second of the afternoon. Pinder's low cross came to the forward at the front post, but her low shot would roll beyond the post.

But the Swans saw out the game to begin the new campaign with three points, and extending their unbeaten record in opening-day fixtures to six games.
