Report | Cardiff City Women 2 Swansea City Ladies 0
Swansea City Ladies suffered a first defeat of the Genero Adran Premier season as they were beaten by Cardiff City Women.
Two first-half goals from Phoebie Poole were enough to seal three points for the Bluebirds, as a number of chances went begging for the Swans.
Both teams came into the game with a perfect start, having won two from two, with neither team having conceded a league goal before the game.
Swansea started the game brightly, Katy Hosford finding herself through on goal in the opening minute. The forward looked to round the goalkeeper but was brought down on the edge of the box, and the resulting free kick from Stacey John-Davies being saved.
The Swans continued to cause trouble down the flanks in the opening 15 minutes, with John-Davis and Hosford having efforts saved by Ceryn Chamberlain in the Cardiff goal.
John-Davis would soon find time down the right again, this time picking out Laura Davies in the box, but the midfielder’s headed effort didn’t have the necessary power to beat the keeper.
After a dominant opening spell from the visitors, Cardiff began to find their feet in the game and Poole broke the deadlock after 24 minutes with a header from a great ball by Ffion Price.
Fourteen minutes later and Poole would have her second goal, Swansea keeper Claire Skinner spilling an effort from Danielle Green and giving Poole a simple tap in to double the Bluebirds lead.
Poole almost made it three just before the break, firing off a crossbar-rattling effort from inside the box.
The Swans searched for a way back but were handed a blow as when John-Davis took a knock and had to be replaced on the hour mark.
Still Hosford came close to pulling one back, a stunning strike from the edge of the box being denied by the underside of the crossbar.
The Swans would hit the bar again with nine minutes to go, substitute Shaunna Jenkins’ powerful volley cannoning off the woodwork.
Despite the pressure from the Swans, they would be unable to find their way past the Cardiff defence as they suffered a first league defeat of the season.
