Aimee Deacon v Cardiff Women

Swansea City Women suffered a first defeat of 2025 as they were beaten at Genero Adran Premier leaders Cardiff City.

Following an even first half with chances for both sides, it would be the Bluebirds who would score the only goal of the game as Lily Billingham powered a shot past Charlie Haynes.

The Swans looked for a way back into the game, with Chloe Chivers going the closest, but it wasn’t to be for the visitors.

Swansea had opened brightly, and StaceyJohn-Davis had the chance to put them ahead early. Aimee Deacon won the ball high up the pitch before crossing to the forward, but her first time effort  flew over the bar.

The hosts responded with a chance of their own when Laura Curnock blazed over the bar after Nieve Jenkins’ deflected effort found her in the box.

Chivers looked for the opener as she skipped past Billingham on the edge of the box, but her long-range effort  was held by the keeper.

Billingham then had a big chance for the hosts just before the break as she burst past the Swansea defence, but her effort from inside the box was dragged wide of the post.

But Billingham would not make the same mistake twice. Early in the second half she once again burst in behind, and this time finished into the top left corner to put Cardiff in front.

Chivers looked for a quick equaliser, and her left-footed strike forcing a good low save from Ceryn Chamberlain.

The two sides continues to trade chances and Ffiona Barry found space down the left before unleashing a powerful shot, that was well saved by Haynes.

The defeat brought an end to the Swans perfect start to 2025, who are soon in action again when they host Briton Ferry Llansawel on Wednesday.
