Morgan Bates' 92nd-minute winner claimed a dramatic victory on the road as Swansea City Under-21s beat Bristol City in a seven-goal thriller on Friday afternoon.

There was also a welcome return for Filip Lissah, who was introduced as a second-half substitute after eight months on the sidelines due to injury.

The hosts had struck first through Olly Thomas, but their lead lasted less than 10 minutes as Thomas Woodward's close-range finish drew the Swans level.

And the visitors got a second goal not long after as Aimar Govea's curling strike fired the Swans into the lead, which they retained at the break.

More goals came in the second half, and the Robins were back level only two minutes after the restart, Thomas was threaded in behind and swept the ball into the net for his second of the afternoon.

The visitors went in front again on 72 minutes, as Bates slotted in following a right-wing cross. The lead didn’t last long, though, as Thomas found himself through on goal once more, rounding the onrushing Sam Seager and slotting in his hat-trick to make it 3-3.

The result was then decided in the third minute of additional time, as a cross evaded the gloves of the Bristol City keeper and fell kindly at the feet of Bates, who poked home his second of the game from just inside the six-yard box.
