Report | Bournemouth 5 Swansea City 0
Swansea City were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup fourth round by Premier League Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The Cherries stormed into an early lead as Lloyd Kelly, Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra found the back of the net inside 15 minutes, with David Brooks setting up two of those goals.
Brooks added a fourth when he bested the Swans offside trap and slotted beyond Andy Fisher, and Dominic Solanke made it 5-0 before the break when he turned in Sinisterra’s ball from close range.
That was how the scoreline remained throughout the second period on a night to forget for the Swans.
Head coach Luke Williams made five changes for the cup tie with Andy Fisher, Joe Allen, Jerry Yates, Charlie Patino and Kyle Naughton all named in the starting XI.
Carl Rushworth, Harry Darling and Jamie Paterson dropped to the bench, while Jamal Lowe – who was sidelined through injury and would not have been eligible to feature against his parent club – and Josh Tymon were not included in the squad.
This meant Liam Cullen was deployed at wing-back and there was space for Swansea City Under-21s' skipper Filip Lissah on the bench.
The hosts started the night as favourites, and they stormed to an early lead, finding the back of the net three times before a quarter-of-an-hour was played.
Nathan Wood conceded a free-kick for a pull on Sinisterra and Brooks’ deep left-footed free-kick delivery was volleyed in at the back post by Kelly.
Three minutes later, Brooks was released down the right, using his pace to get away from Bashir Humphreys and then cutting it back to Scott, who opened his body up to side-foot it beyond Fisher.
The goalscorer turned provider in the 12th minute when Scott pinched the ball off Patino at the edge of his own box as the Swans tried to build from the back. He picked out Sinisterra, who cut inside and curled inside the far post.
The Swans produced a flurry of chances on the half-hour mark. Jay Fulton had a volley blocked before Naughton’s effort from the rebound hit the post. Cullen picked up the loose ball and worked it into Wood, who forced Mark Travers into his first stop of the game.
But the Cherries added a fourth before the break. It was a well-timed run from Brooks who met Solanke’s smart ball around the corner and raced through with only the keeper to beat. It was a calm finish from the Wales international.
Solanke made it five on the stroke of half-time, the home side picked off a loose pass in midfield and Sinisterra played the ball in behind the retreating Swans for the Premier League’s December player of the month to turn in from close range.
Travers produced a good stop in injury time to deny Cullen, who connected brilliantly with a volleyed effort on the spin after Humphreys' header at the back post was cleared to the edge of the box.
While Bournemouth controlled the second half, it was Cullen who was first to go close after the break when his half-cross, half-shot looked like it might have been creeping in at the back post before being tipped over by Travers.
Fisher was on hand to claim an in-swinging free kick with substitute Kieffer Moore threatening to get on the end of it, before shortly after claiming a Sinisterra cross.
Lissah was brought off the bench to make his senior debut with around 15 minutes remaining.
Marcus Tavenier and Milos Kerkez went close in the closing stages, but all the damage had already been done during the opening period as Swansea bowed out of the FA Cup.
