REPORT: Aberystwyth Ladies 1 Swans Ladies 2
Swansea City Ladies left it late to claim a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Aberystwyth Town Ladies on Sunday thanks to goals from strikers Lauren Cubbon and Jodie Passmore.
The Swans created chances from the outset with Canadian Taylor Bubnick hitting the crossbar with a seventh-minute header while midfielder Emma Beynon narrowly fired wide with her own effort.
It was Aberystwyth, however, who took the lead in the 30th minute courtesy of Stephanie Land.
Soon after, Passmore saw her penalty appeal turned down after she claimed to have been taken down.
After the break, Swans Ladies maintained the pressure but left it until the 74th minute to level the score with Canadian Cubbon coming off the bench to clinch her second goal since joining the club with a low shot.
The visitors then went close to taking the lead with an attempt from Sarah Adams but Aber's keeper pulled off a good save to prevent the Swans from scoring.
But the Swans were not to be denied victory as Passmore sealed the win in the 88th minute when she slotted home a 12-yard shot.
"I felt we dominated possession, however we couldn't capitalise in the final third," said defender Lowri Ridings. "The team showed great determination in the second half to push on with the game and get ourselves the three points. We pulled together as a team, and left the game with our heads held high."
The Swans Ladies remain second in the Welsh Premier Women's League and now turn their attention to today's home match against Cyncoed Ladies (6.30pm).
