Preview | Wrexham AFC Women v Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women travel to north Wales as they face Wrexham AFC Women at the Racecourse in the Genero Adran Premier this evening (5.10pm).
The Swans will be looking to return to winning ways after being held to a goalless draw in their last outing with Barry Town United Women.
Wrexham head into the fixture in search of their first points of the season, having suffered defeat to Cardiff City and Briton Ferry Llansawel in their opening two games.
Pre-match views
First-team manager Jamie Sherwood: “Wrexham are a top team filled with players who are more than capable of achieving what they want to achieve. We know they’ll be preparing hard for this game and be looking to take away three points the same as we are.
“We were disappointed and frustrated last time out, we’ve addressed that individually and as a group, and we’ve hit the training ground really hard this week.
“We’ve looked at the identity we are going to play with and we feel we are doing the right things in the right areas, and it’s a matter of time before the goals appear and hopefully that will be this weekend.
“Playing at the Racecourse is huge, it’s a great honour to be playing there, I know the girls have played there previously, but it’s a ground steeped with tradition and heritage.
"I hope we do our part to make the game as entertaining as it possibly can be whilst walking away with three points.”
Previous meeting
The last meeting between the two sides also took place at the Racecourse, with a late Ellie Lake goal earning the Swans a 3-2 win.
Wrexham found themselves in front after 25 minutes, a stunning strike from Lili Jones opening the scoring, before Robyn Pinder equalised from the spot just seven minutes later after Katy Hosford was brought down in the box.
Monet Legall would put the Swans in front early into the second half with a fantastic hit from distance, but Rosie Hughes would level with just nine minutes to go.
However, Lake would secure all three points for the Swans, a low effort from distance finding it’s way into the bottom corner.
