Preview | Talycopa AFC Women v Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women will look to return to winning ways when they travel to face Talycopa AFC Women in the first round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup this afternoon (2pm).
The Swans - who suffered a first defeat of the season last time out against The New Saints Women - were semi-finalists in the cup last season, suffering a 3-1 loss to eventual winners Cardiff City Women in the last four.
Talycopa reached this stage of the competition after a convincing 12-0 win over Aberaman Ladies in the qualifying rounds, and currently sit fourth in the Perago West Wales Women’s and Girls' League.
This fixture in Trallwn will be the first-ever meeting between the sides, having been postponed from its original date last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch.
Pre-match views
First-team manager Jamie Sherwood: “We didn’t perform the way we wanted to in the previous game, so it gives us the opportunity to respond in a positive way.
“We have highlighted that we want to try and win some silverware this year, and this game represents the first step on that journey in this competition.
“We weren’t good enough in both boxes last time out, we showed enough of the identity that we want to in possession, out of possession we could have done a little bit more, but we need to be more clinical and aggressive at both ends.
“We don’t take any opposition lightly, we respect every side that we face, we’ve prepared this week as we have for every game this season, we will be ready to take the field on Sunday and give everything we can to put ourselves in the next round of the cup.”
