Preview | Swansea City Women v Cardiff Met Women
Swansea City Women return to Genero Adran Premier action as they welcome Cardiff Met Women to Llandarcy Academy of Sport this afternoon (2pm).
The Swans come into the game off the back of an 11-0 victory over Talycopa AFC Women in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup first round, but will be looking to return to winning ways in the league following a 5-0 defeat to The New Saints Women last time out.
Cardiff Met, meanwhile, will be on the hunt for their first win of the season, having earned just one point so far from a draw against bottom of the table Aberystwyth Town Women.
Pre-match views
First-team manager Jamie Sherwood: “The next period of games is a challenge for us and we will make sure we are ready for that.
“The atmosphere is good, the performance last weekend was pleasing and a lot of players got minutes in their legs. Our identity and personality was definitely on show and I’d like to think we can continue that into this week's fixture.
“Their coach is very astute and tactically aware, he will know what we would like to do as a gameplan and we won’t be shying away from our identity and personality and we will make sure we are ready to do what we need to in order to exploit their areas of weakness.
“The players have given us food for thought, it’s really pleasing that the depth of squad is as strong as we expected it to be and it goes to show how hard everyone works in training.”
Previous meeting
The two sides last met in the opening game of the 2024-25 campaign, with the Swans earning a 2-1 opening day win.
Chelsea Cochrane put Cardiff Met in front early, a long-range strike after four minutes finding the top right corner.
But the Swans quickly responded, Danielle Broadhurst capitalising on a loose ball in the box to net her first goal for the club.
Stacey John-Davis put the Swans in front just before the break, a long-range chip that would prove to be the winner finding the back off the net after lobbing the retreating Met goalkeeper.
