Preview | Swansea City Women v Aberystwyth Town Women
Swansea City Women return to Llandarcy Academy of Sport as they host Aberystwyth Town Women in the Genero Adran Premier this afternoon (2pm).
The Swans will be looking to return to winning ways having been held to a 2-2 draw to Barry Town United a week ago, a result that extended their unbeaten run to five games.
Aberystwyth head to Llandarcy in search of a first league win of the season, having gained just one point this season in a goalless draw against bottom of the table Cardiff Met Women.
The fixture sees former Swans manager Chris Church return to Llandarcy for the first time since his departure in the summer.
Pre-match views
First-team manager Jamie Sherwood: “It’s a good opportunity for us to get back into winning ways, last week was a disappointment, this week gives us an opportunity to test ourselves again, and we are raring to go.
“The second 45 minutes last Sunday was some of the best football we have played this season, if we can commit to it over 90 minutes on Sunday then we will get the rewards we deserve.
“I think Chris [Church] did great work here, which should be applauded. He will believe he knows the players and the way they want to play, but I slightly differ because I believe we have changed a lot in the last six months.”
Previous meeting
The two sides last met in the final game of the 2023-24 Genero Adran Premier campaign, with the game finishing goalless.
The Swans came closest to breaking the deadlock in a hard-fought contest, with Katy Hosford and Chloe Chivers having their best chances.
But Aberystwyth would hold strong to make it consecutive draws against the Swans, with the sides having also shared the spoils in Llandarcy a few days earlier.
The fixture was also Alicia Powe’s final game for the Swans, bringing an end to a trophy-laden 20-year career.
Prime numbers
5 – The last five meetings between the two sides in Llandarcy have all ended in draws, with the Swans 5-0 win over Aberystwyth in March 2021 being the last clash in SA10 not to finish level.
100 – Last Sunday’s game was Jess Williams’ 100th for the club, making her the fourth current player to hit the milestone. Katy Hosford, Stacey John-Davis and Sophie Brisland-Hancocks have also passed a century of outings for the Swans.
