Preview | Swansea City Ladies v Cardiff Met
Swansea City Ladies welcome Cardiff Met to Llandarcy in a top of the table clash in the Genero Adran Premier this afternoon (2pm).
The Swans currently trail The Archers in top spot on goal difference, with both sides sitting on 15 points. However, Chris Church’s side have a game in hand and a 100 per cent record.
Swansea have had the most joy from recent meetings between the two sides; the last time Met defeated the two-time defending champions was back in 2018.
And the Swans will view this fixture as a chance to stamp their authority on the division early in their latest title defence.
Pre-match views
Chris Church: “We are expecting another tough game but, at the end of the day, if the players apply themselves like they have done so far this season, then there is no reason why we can’t walk away with three points.
“The work rate and the intensity that we have been bringing has to be there.
“We have to have the mentality of champions to take the three points and move ourselves clear (at the top of the table).
“Sometimes you have to have one eye on the opposition, but I will always reiterate it isn’t about them, it is about us.”
Remember the last time?
Swans supporters can look back fondly on the last clash after the three points were sealed with a last-gasp winner at the Cyncoed Campus on the opening weekend of the season.
Met broke the deadlock in the first half after Emily Allen buried it into the far corner, however, Swansea pulled it back in the second half with Stacey John-Davis popped up with the equaliser.
A penalty was awarded to the defending champions in the last few minutes after Rhianne Oakley was taken down in the box by Anabel Sweeney; Shaunna Jenkins saw her penalty hit the bar but made no mistake from the rebound.
