Preview | Pontypridd United Women v Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women will look to continue their excellent run of form when they travel to Pontypridd United Women in the Genero Adran Premier this afternoon (2pm kick-off).
The Swans have won 11 of their last 12 games in all competitions, and started 2024 with two wins, eight goals and two clean sheets.
Pontypridd, meanwhile, head into the game off the back of earning their first point of the season last weekend, leading against Aberystwyth for almost 70 minutes before conceding a late equaliser to draw on home soil.
The Swans sit second in the Genero Adran Premier, six points behind league leaders Cardiff City Women, while Pontypridd are bottom of the table.
TEAM NEWS
The Swans will be without Jess Williams after the defender suffered a fractured foot.
Williams missed the Swans Genero Adran Premier fixture against Cardiff Met as she awaited assessment on the injury.
Although there is no time frame at current for the defender’s return, Williams is not expected to be absent for an extended period.
PRE-MATCH VIEWS
Interim head coach Chris Church: "It's going to be another tough game, they come into the game off the back of a good result so we really need to be switched on.
"You can't write off any teams in this league, regardless of their position in the table, anyone can beat anyone and it's just about respecting the opponent.
"We go into it with really good form, we aimed to score more goals and keep clean sheets after Christmas and we've definitely done that so far.
"It's now about maintaining that, every game will be important for us for the rest of the season and we just keep moving forward."
PREVIOUS MEETING
The two sides last met in October, with the Swans earning a 3-1 win over Pontypridd.
Captain Katy Hosford gave the Swans the lead after tapping home at the back post from a Chloe Chivers cross.
Robyn Pinder doubled their lead just two minutes later, flicking home Hosford’s corner at the near post for her second goal of the season.
Pontypridd pulled one back early in the second half, a stunning strike from Nadia Lawrence giving keeper Claire Skinner no chance.
But Nieve Jenkins would seal three points for the home side late on, tucking her effort into the bottom-left corner to earn three points in Chris Church’s first game as interim head coach.
