Swansea City Ladies

Swansea City Ladies make the trip to take on Pontypridd Town this afternoon in the Genero Adran Premier at the USW Sport Park (2pm).

The match will be Chris Church’s first in charge as head coach of the two-time defending champions, having taken over from Chris Llewellyn in midweek.

The Swans are coming into the fixture off the back of a last-minute victory over last season’s title rivals Cardiff Met in their season opener.

Pontypridd, meanwhile, also picked up three points in their league opener last weekend, defeating newly-promoted outfit The New Saints 2-1 on their travels.

Chris Church

Chris Church: “We can’t take away from what we did last Sunday. It was a great second half and there are things to work on.

“We know Pontypridd will be a completely different test to Cardiff Met.

“Fern (Burrage-Male) has worked hard on her squad this pre-season, so I am expecting a tough examination of us.

“But, if we work the way we want to and stick to our principles and game plan then there is no reason why we can’t come away with all three points.”

Remember the last time?

On the last encounter between the two sides Swansea put in a professional performance in a 3-0 win against Pontypridd – then known as Cyncoed Ladies.

The Swans took the lead after Ellie Lake’s effort took a deflection off Ellie Gunney on its way in.

Swansea controlled the play and applied the finishing touches to a strong performance in the second half.

Emma Beynon’s in-swinging cross found its way into the back of the net to double the lead, then the three points were sealed after Jess Williams’ looping free-kick found its way into the far corner.
