Preview | Norwich City v Swansea City

25th January
First team
Carrow Road

Swansea City head to East Anglia to take on Norwich City seeking consistency in their performance following the midweek showing against Sheffield United.

The Swans take on the Canaries having pushed the promotion-chasing Blades all the way for the second time this season.

That showing was in stark contrast to the display in the south Wales derby, and players and coaching staff have spoken of the need to produce high levels of performances on a more regular basis over the final months of the season.

They face a Norwich side whose own form has been up and down of late, but who have lost only three league games on their home turf so far this season.

Team news

Harry Darling Red card

The Swans will be without Harry Darling as he serves the first match of a three-game ban following his red card in midweek, but new signing Hannes Delcroix is available after completing his loan switch from Burnley.

Luke Williams' injury-list is shortening with Sam Parker and Josh Ginnelly back in action.

Kristian Pedersen and Ollie Cooper are progressing well in their rehabilitations.

Pre-match views

Luke Williams: “We have to do much, much better away from home. This will be an atmosphere that makes everyone alive instantly, and it’s about making sure we don’t get negatively affected by it.

“For example, when we went there last season, we rose to the atmosphere and the occasion. Everyone rose to it, we felt really positive and we played in a good way.

“We used the atmosphere to give us energy and we need to do the same this time, because they are a really good side and, personally for me, one of the most attractive teams to watch.

“They have a lot of swagger and a nice style of play so we have to be ready for a really tough test and be brave enough to try and impose ourselves.

“We have done it many times this season, but we have been inconsistent and it means this is going to be a big challenge.”

Johannes Hoff Thorup: "It could be a tricky one. They like to dominate possession and build-up from the back like us. We know they can also be more direct in their approach. We are prepared for both.

"When you have the busy schedule like we’ve had this week. It’s even more down to us to focus on our rhythm."

Remember the last time?

Goals from Jamie Paterson and Matt Grimes saw Swansea City continue their strong end to the 2023-24 season with a draw at play-off hopefuls Norwich City.

The Swans had taken the lead at Carrow Road courtesy of an emphatic finish from Paterson at the end of a crisp flowing attack.

Norwich responded with a brilliant goal from Gabriel Sara before Josh Sargent headed the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time.

But the visitors hit back as Grimes scored from the spot on his 300th appearance for the Swans.
