Preview | Cardiff Met Women vs Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women begin their Bute Energy Welsh Cup campaign this afternoon with a trip to the Cyncoed Campus to face Cardiff Met Women (2pm).
The Swans will be looking to bounce back having lost to the three-time winners of the competition two weeks ago, suffering a 3-1 defeat in the Genero Adran Premier.
Met also knocked the Swans out of this competition last season, winning 5-3 on penalties following a goalless draw after 90 minutes. They went on to win the competition, beating Cardiff City in the final.
The Swans head into the game on the back of a 3-1 league win against Pontypridd United Women.
Met, meanwhile, played out a 1-1 draw at home to Aberystwyth Town last time out, which saw the Archers fall to sixth in the table - one place and two points behind the Swans.
PRE-MATCH VIEWS
Swansea City Women’s Interim head coach Chris Church: “We want to progress as far as we can in the cup and hopefully win it.
“For us it’s something we’ve always wanted to win, we always strive to win every competition we play in and this cup is no different.
“We’re no strangers to Cardiff Met, especially playing them so recently, it’s a good opportunity to go out there and give a good account of ourselves.
“The win last weekend was vital for morale, you could see the smiles on the players faces after the game and hopefully we can keep that going.”
TEAM NEWS
The Swans will be bolstered by the arrival of new signing Emily Thomas, with the midfielder available to coach Church for this afternoon's tie.
In addition to the arrival of Thomas, Ellie Lake will be available for the Swans this weekend. The defender has been suspended for the Swans last three games following a red card in the opening game of the season.
PREVIOUS MEETING
The Swans were beaten 3-1 in the previous meeting between the two sides, just two weeks prior to this weekend’s fixture.
Ingrid Aadland capitalised on a loose ball in the box to give the Archers a first-half lead, before Ellie Preece doubled the advantage just after the break.
Katy Hosford pulled one back for the Swans with nine minutes to go, but a late Erin Murray goal sealed victory for Met.
