Premier League Kicks participants represent Swansea City AFC Foundation in mini south Wales derby competition
Swansea City AFC Foundation’s Premier League Kicks participants from Blaenymaes and Gorseinon recently took part in a football tournament and social issues workshop in Cardiff.
The youngsters started their day with a mini-tournament against teams from Cardiff City Foundation’s own Kicks participants at the Cardiff International Sports Campus.
Following a presentation ceremony, those in attendance visited the House of Sport - next to Cardiff City Stadium - for a workshop hosted by Wesley Cunliffe, an advocate for raising awareness around social issues.
Wesley delivered a thoroughly engaging presentation, which educated participants on topics including the realities of gang crime and prison life.
The day was then brought to a close with a football fiesta; a festival of many different football-based mini games.
“We had a great day and all our participants have really enjoyed the experience,” said Craig Richards, youth engagement manager at Swansea City AFC Foundation.
“It’s fantastic to give them the opportunity to wear the Swans kit and represent our community.
“Sessions like the one Wesley put on are really important, and he was fantastic with his approach.
“We’re really proud of all the boys. The way they conducted themselves throughout the day, on and off the football pitch, was a credit to themselves and the club.”
South Wales Police contribute to the Blaenymaes PL Kicks sessions, and police community support officer Stephen Evans - who accompanied both teams to the event, added: “I’m proud of our Kicks teams from Blaenymaes and Gorseinon.
“They enjoyed the day and were able to take a lot from it. They learnt that you can still have a winning day even if you can’t always win on the pitch.”
Swansea City AFC Foundation would like to thank Cardiff City Foundation for hosting the day, and South Wales Police for their continued support of our PL Kicks sessions.
