Past meetings | Swansea City v West Brom

19th October
First team

As Swansea City get set to host West Brom on Wednesday (7.45pm), we look back at some previous encounters between the clubs.

Here we recall past clashes in the Premier League and the old First Division.

Swansea City 3 West Brom 0

Premier League – August 30, 2014

A brace from Nathan Dyer and a wonder strike from Wayne Routledge saw Garry Monk’s Swans briefly go top of the Premier League in 2014.

There was a perfect start for the home side as Dyer got on the end of an exquisite flick from Gylfi Sigurdsson to fire home inside two minutes.

Routledge then doubled the Swans’ lead before the half-hour, meeting a headed clearance from Baggies defender Craig Dawson with a beautifully struck volley which arrowed into the net.

The Swans dominated the game, limiting West Brom to just two shots on target, with Sigurdsson and Dyer combining again for the third goal.

Premier League – November 28, 2012

West Brom cele

Michu scored his eighth goal of the season and Wayne Routledge bagged a brace as Michael Laudrup’s Swans produced some scintillating football when West Brom visited SA1 in 2012.

Michu saw an effort rebound off the post inside two minutes, but was on the scoresheet soon after with a neat finish from a Pablo Hernandez cross.

Hernandez continued to cause mayhem down the left flank and picked up a second assist, his cross this time falling to Routledge, whose deflected effort found the back of the net.

Routledge netted his second of the game in similar circumstances, with full-back Ben Davies providing the cross from the left wing on that occasion.

Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for the Baggies just before the end of an action-packed first half, but it was not enough to prevent Laudrup’s men from picking up an emphatic win.

Premier League – September 17, 2011

The Swans claimed their first Premier League win – and scored their first goals – against West Brom in September 2011.

Scott Sinclair, Leroy Lita and Nathan Dyer were all on the scoresheet for Brendan Rodgers’ team, who won in the Premier League for the first time at the fifth attempt.

Sinclair opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Joe Allen was brought down in the box by Baggies defender Paul Scharner.

Lita, making his first start for the Swans, made it 2-0 before half-time, heading home from a Sinclair cross at close range.

Lita was involved again in the third, climbing high to flick on Michel Vorm’s long ball into the path of Dyer, who slotted the ball expertly through the legs of West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Division One – March 26, 1983

Robbie James and Bob Latchford were on target as the Swans beat West Brom 2-1 at Vetch Field in 1983.

John Toshack’s Swans picked up what was only their third win in 14 in a feisty game, which saw three yellow cards shown in the first half.

James opened the scoring on 36 minutes while Latchford netted his 17th goal of the season early in the second half.

West Brom responded through striker Gary Thompson, but his 90th-minute strike wasn’t enough to deny the Swans a rare win.
