Past Meetings: Swans v Norwich
As Swansea City get set to face Norwich City at the Liberty on Saturday (3pm), we look back at some previous encounters between the clubs.
Here we recall games in the Premier League, Championship and the old First Division.
Swans 1 Norwich 0
Premier League – March 5, 2016
Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the only goal of the game when Swansea City last faced Norwich at the Liberty Stadium.
Manager Francesco Guidolin missed the game through illness, leaving Alan Curtis in charge of a Swans side who had beaten Arsenal in midweek.
In a game of few chances, the Swans were unlucky not to be given a penalty in the first half when Andre Ayew was brought down in the box, while set-piece maestro Sigurdsson was also causing problems for the visitors.
And it was Icelander who broke the deadlock in the second half, making no mistake with a driven effort from 14 yards to give the Swans a win which put them nine points clear of the relegation zone.
Swans 3 Norwich 0
Premier League – March 29, 2014
Jonathan de Guzman bagged a brace as Swansea City claimed an emphatic victory over the Canaries in 2014.
The win saw the Swans leapfrog Norwich into 13th position in the table.
Dutch midfielder de Guzman scored twice in eight minutes to send Garry Monk’s side into half-time with a 2-0 lead.
Wayne Routledge then sealed the three points on the day that Leon Britton made his 400th appearance for the club.
Swans 3 Norwich 0
Championship – April 9, 2011
Fabio Borini, Mark Gower and Tamas Priskin kept Swansea City in the hunt for an automatic promotion place as Norwich City were swept aside in 2011.
On-loan Chelsea forward Borini opened the scoring inside five minutes with his third goal in as many games, beating goalkeeper John Ruddy with a stunning free-kick.
Gower doubled the lead from the edge of the area on the half-hour mark while Dorus De Vries was in fine form for the home side at the other end of the pitch.
Striker Priskin, on loan from Ipswich, sealed the game for Brendan Rodgers’ men late in added time, pouncing on a weak backpass from Norwich’s Zak Whitbread to slot past Ruddy.
Swans 4 Norwich 0
First Division – September 4, 1982
Bob Latchford scored his second hat-trick for the Swans as John Toshack’s side breezed past promoted Norwich in 1982.
The game was as good as over by half-time with Latchford scoring twice inside half an hour
before Robbie James made it 3-0.
It was the first time that Norwich had visited Vetch Field since the 1964-65 season and they would be in no hurry to return as Latchford bagged his third with 10 minutes left to play.
Despite an impressive start to the season, the Swans were relegated to Division Two at the end of the campaign.
