Past meetings: Leicester v Swans

31st January
First team

As Swansea City get set for a trip to Leicester City this weekend, we look back at some previous encounters between the clubs.

Here we recall past meetings in the Premier League and the old Second Division.

Leicester 2 Swans 1

Premier League – August 27, 2016

Leroy Fer was on target with a towering header in the Swans’ most recent visit to the King Power Stadium – but the Dutchman’s effort was not enough to save the visitors from defeat.

Fer nodded home 10 minutes from time to give the Swans hope on a rain-soaked afternoon in the East Midlands.

But by then Leicester had taken control thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan, and in truth Franceco Guidolin’s team could not complain after this defeat.

This was the Swans’ third reverse in three Premier League visits to Leicester, so Carlos Carvalhal’s team will be looking to break new ground on Saturday.

Leicester 1 Swans 1

Second Division – February 20, 1980

Having climbed from the Fourth Division to the second tier, John Toshack’s Swans had to rebuild a little in 1979-80 after selling Alan Curtis to Leeds.

A number of new signings were made and helped the Swans to a 12th-place finish, which was a slight disappointment after two seasons of great progress.

Along the way came this 1-1 draw with Leicester, when Toshack scored the visitors’ goal.

The Swans boss was encouraged by his team’s efforts through the season, and felt there were good times ahead in 1980-81.

He called that one right.

Leicester 2 Swans 3

Second Division – October 28, 1950

The Swans have won only two games at Leicester in 19 visits stretching all the way back to an FA Cup tie in 1929.

The most recent of those victories was in 1950, when Dai Thomas, Cyril Beech and the great Ivor Allchurch were on target in a memorable 3-2 success.

The Swans did not enjoy a great season, but did enough to stay in the second tier.
