Swansea City Ladies manager Ian Owen has hailed the goalscoring prowess of Katy Hosford, and has challenged her to keep up her form in 2020.

Hosford has been in sensational form this season, scoring 15 goals in just 10 matches for the Welsh Premier Women’s League leaders.

That included six strikes in the FAW Women’s Cup demolition of Dafen, while another four came in the victory over Aberdare in the same competition.

Owen’s side have a perfect record in all tournaments so far this term, while they sit top of the league following seven consecutive victories – including an opening-day win over defending champions Cardiff Met.

And the Swans boss was quick to point out Hosford’s form as key to their fine start to the campaign.

“Katy has been first class and that determination to do well comes out in her as much as anyone,” he said. “Whether it be training or games, Katy gives her all to the team.

“I have encouraged her to get in the box more this season and its paying off.

“Katy is able to score all types of goals as she has shown so far. She has a great strike and is good in the air, so hopefully her good form will continue.”

A number of summer signings has bolstered Owen’s squad, with the Swans boss encouraged by the strength in depth he has at his disposal.

Tija Richardson was the latest to sign for the Swans, with the centre-back having played in the club’s youth ranks.

She went on to lead Cardiff Met to a domestic treble last season, but she’s now back on familiar soil and aiding the Swans’ cause.

Owen added: “Tija has shown exactly what we have expected of her. She has trained really well and her understanding of where the team is at the moment and playing her way into it has been fantastic.

“Tija is an experienced player with a great CV - she's a winner and her record over the years speaks for itself. She is a real presence on the pitch with fantastic leadership qualities, so she is a tremendous addition to our squad.”

The Swans are next in action on December 29 when they welcome Cardiff City to Llandarcy (2pm) in the Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup.
