Ollie Cooper | We have to maintain these performance levels
Ollie Cooper says Swansea City have set the standard for the rest of the season with their performances against high-flying Watford and Burnley.
The Swans backed up a superb 4-0 win over the Hornets by going toe to toe with the league leaders on Monday.
Russell Martin’s team eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat, despite Cooper netting his fourth goal of the season after Ian Maatsen’s brace had given Burnley the lead.
But they pushed a visiting side who have lost just two games all season and look all-but destined for an immediate return to the top-flight.
And midfielder Cooper wants the Swans to continue to play with the sort of energy and intensity that troubled Vincent Kompany’s side, particularly during much of the opening half in SA1.
“I think we’ve put in two good performances in the last two games, I thought we did amazingly well against Watford last week,” he said.
“Although we didn’t get the three points here, we put in a very good performance against the league leaders.
“We went all the way down the to the final whistle. Of course we are disappointed to lose, but It was a good performance. Now we must build on that and take it into the next game, and the one after that.”
Cooper was pleased to be back on the scoresheet for the first time since his opener in the south Wales derby in October.
And he is keen to continue contributing during what has been a breakthrough season for him at first-team level with the Swans.
“I said at the start of the season that I want to contribute as much as I can, whether that’s goals or assists,” he said.
“To get another goal is massive. I just want to continue scoring and assisting and giving what I can every week. But overall, I am very happy with my goal.”
