Nia Jones | We are all frustrated
Nia Jones was left frustrated after Swansea City Women couldn’t break down a resolute Barry Town United Women defence in their goalless draw at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The Swans dominated possession throughout the afternoon, with goals by Taite Trivett and Maddy Murray being disallowed for offside.
Robyn Pinder and Katy Hosford also forced good saves from Barry goalkeeper Molly Arnesen, but the hosts couldn’t find a way through.
Defender Jones was frustrated not to be leaving the Swansea.com Stadium with three points, but feels confident that wins will come with small improvements.
“The first emotion we are all feeling is frustration,” said Jones.
“Obviously we dominated possession, but credit to Barry they set up that low block that we found really difficult to break down.
“There were moments that we played the style that we wanted to play, we moved the ball at good speeds and we found our key players, but it’s just that final product.
“The goalkeeper for Barry made a couple of outstanding saves, but on the whole we are leaving here frustrated because it was a great opportunity to play at the Swansea.com Stadium, but hopefully it will make us hungrier for three points next week.
“We are a pretty new group, we’ve got a few new players and a new management team, it’s only the second game of the season but we are a group with high standards.
“The amount of possession that we had, we should have had some more attempts on goal and we needed a little bit more patience from everybody so there is absolutely no blame game here.
“We will go back, look at the video, reflect on our own performances and see how we can improve for next week.
“The occasion was awesome, the experience of being in the changing room, the fans who came to watch, they’ve given us the platform and the stage that we are striving to perform on and there is nothing we want more than to be scoring goals here.
“It’s still a point picked up and all points will be really valuable come the end of the season when we are challenging for that top spot, but there is plenty to work on this week.”
Jones’ side will return to the Swansea.com Stadium on October 6 when they welcome Genero Adran Premier champions Cardiff City to SA1.
The experiecned centre-half is relishing another opportunity to play at the Swansea.com Stadium, and feels confident heading into the fixture.
“We’ve got a second game here in a couple of weeks time against really tough opposition," she added.
“We don’t fear anybody, all teams are going to be tough and we said that before a ball had been kicked. But we are confident, we will stick to what we do.
“There is some fine tuning that needs to happen, a couple of goals on the board and we will be good to go.”
