Morgan Whittaker | I cannot wait to get going again
Morgan Whittaker is looking to kick on in his first full season at Swansea City, and served notice of his intent with a superb goal in the friendly win over Plymouth.
The striker – who joined the Swans from Derby at the end of the January transfer window – made 13 appearances and scored two goals over the second half of the 2020-21 season.
Having joined for the closing months of that campaign, he is currently enjoying his first pre-season as a Swan and is eager to build on some promising showings.
And he underlined his desire to make a mark with the opener at Home Park on Tuesday night, driving infield before sending a lovely curling strike across goal and high into the net.
“I think that’s what pre-season is all about, getting minutes under your belt and learning things that you are going to take into the season,” he said.
“It was a perfect test for us against a good team and it was great to have the fans back as well.
“We played some good stuff at times, stuff we’ve been learning in training and that will stand us in good stead for the season.
“Playing as many games as we can in pre-season is key. I think the only way you’re going to get the best pre-season experience is by playing games and it also helps us implement the way we want to play.
“Playing games against good teams and in front of fans is the best possible thing to do in pre-season.”
The win at Plymouth marked the first time Whittaker has been able to play in front of Swans fans, having not had the chance to feature against Barnsley and Brentford at the end of last term.
Some 251 traveling Jacks had made the journey to the south-west and Whittaker is eager for the chance to play regularly in front of the Jack Army.
“From just looking at the games where we’ve played in front of fans, you can really see the difference they make,” he said.
“I can’t wait to play in front of a full stadium where all the fans are behind us and hopefully we’ll be getting wins like this.
“I can’t wait for the start of the Championship season, playing in front of fans will make it even better and I can’t wait to play in front of the Jack Army.”
