Monk: 40-point mark is our motivation
26th February
Garry Monk says the chance to reach the 40-point mark will be the burning motivation for his side when they face Burnley on Saturday (3pm).
The Swans travel to Turf Moor on the back of last weekend's historic victory over Manchester United - a result which took Monk's men on to 37 points in the Premier League.
A win against Burnley on Saturday would see Swansea move on to the much sought after 40 points, a number which would all but secure another season of top-flight football in SA1.
And Monk insists that statistic will be the perfect motivation for his players as they look to follow up last Saturday's landmark win.
"It's a big motivation for us," he said. "We have to now use that and go on and do well. We know it will be an extremely tough game and that it won't be easy.
"Burnley are a very fit and intense team to play against. We have to be ready for the battle and match them in every way while also showing our quality.
"Of course last weekend was a fantastic result and performance. The players have obviously been full of confidence this week but we know that confidence can be taken away very quickly at this level."
Burnley are currently 18th in the Premier League table but could move out of the bottom three with a positive result this weekend.
Sean Dyche's side were widely tipped to struggle this term but the Clarets have picked up some impressive results since Christmas as they look to maintain their top-flight status.
"I think they have done very well," said Monk. "They are right amongst it and have a great chance to stay up.
"They are a very hard-working and well organised team. Sean has done and fantastic job there and I've got a lot of respect for him.
"I know he wanted to prove a point and its good to see him doing that."
