Mike: Play-offs our aim

As the turn of the year arrives, Mike van der Hoorn believes Swansea City can still target a place in the Championship play-offs come the end of the season.

Following back-to-back defeats against Hull City and Aston Villa, Graham Potter’s side sit 13th in the Championship table with 32 points – seven adrift of the top six – from their opening 24 games.

After a summer of change at the Liberty – both in terms of the playing and coaching staff – Van der Hoorn believes a true reflection of Swansea City’s progress will become evident during the second half of the season.

And the defender is confident the squad have the ability to be aiming high in 2019.

“We were one of the teams in the Championship that made the most changes from last year,” he tells this afternoon’s Jack Magazine.

“Therefore, there’s been a lot of focus on development and learning a new way of life.

“Now that the players have more games in their legs, I think we will start to see our improvement during the second half of the season.

“We want to try to achieve something by the end. Getting into the play-offs is our aim and we are really going to push towards achieving that.”
