Midfielder Josh Carey signs first Professional Contract at Swansea City
Swansea City midfielder Josh Carey has signed his first professional contract at the club, securing his future in SA1 until the end of June 2024.
The 18-year-old has been with Swansea since under-13 level, and has made the full-time step up to the under-21s this season.
Carey was a regular for the club's under-18s last term, netting goals against Reading and Cardiff City respectively, whilst also having opportunities with the under-21s on a handful of occasions.
A Welsh international at youth level, Carey recently received a Wales Under-18s call-up, but missed out on the camp due to injury.
"We’re pleased that Josh has signed his first professional deal with the club," said interim academy manager Ryan Davies.
"Josh moved down to Swansea from north Wales and entered our full-time education programme. Josh’s desire to succeed on the pitch has been evident throughout his time at the club.
"He is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions. He’s tough tackling and has the ability to break play up. He’s a very honest character who will push himself daily to develop.
"Josh has grown so much as a young man, he’s had to mature living away from home from such a young age. His family have always been really supportive. We would like to thank them for all the support they’ve given Josh and the club."
