Michael Obafemi | Brilliant relationship with the gaffer helps bring the best out of me
Swansea City forward Michael Obafemi believes his “brilliant" relationship with head coach Russell Martin is helping to get the best out of him.
The Swans number nine has three goals to his name so far in 2022-23, and he has sets his sights on bettering his tally of 12 from last term.
And he believes that the atmosphere created by Martin and the staff at Swansea City is helping get the best out of him and the rest of the squad.
“Russell’s helped me out a lot – his man management with me has been amazing. He knows the way I work and I know the way he works now. It’s a brilliant relationship that we’ve got," said the striker.
“For me, if I feel welcomed in and we have a good connection and bond, then I feel like that’s how to get the best out of me.
“I feel like me and the manager have got a good relationship. I’m really enjoying it – I just going out there like a free soul.
“We’re still a young team so we have plenty to work on but right now things are going well and are going the way we want it to go.
“We’ve got five games left until the international break, so we just want to get the most points out of that really."
And Obafemi believes the way the Swans squad have shared around the goals so far this season is a real plus, albeit he hopes to be on the scoresheet as often as possible himself.
“Everyone knows that they’re going to be needed, I know I’m not going to play every game, but I know that if I’m not playing others can step in," he said.
"Joel (Piroe) is coming back from suspension which is another big boost, and everyone will be needed.
“Last season, it was mainly just Joel scoring the goals until I found form towards the end of the season – but this year, it feels like everyone is scoring: defenders, midfielders and strikers. It’s needed if we want to do well this season. It’s a good thing that everyone’s stepping up."
