Michael Duff | We played some good football, but conceded poor goals
Michael Duff was encouraged by the cutting edge his Swansea City side showed against Hull City, but was frustrated to see them relinquish a lead in their draw at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The head coach had challenged his squad to show purpose in possession against the Tigers, and they certainly did that during a first-half performance where they posed loads of problems for the visitors.
Jamie Paterson fired the home side ahead when he finished off a sweeping counter-attack, and it was the midfielder’s strike from distance that allowed Jerry Yates to slot home Swansea’s second when Ryan Allsop parried.
However, Hull pulled a goal back when Jaden Philogene flashed a shot in at the near post early in the second half, before Tyler Morton steered a Cyrus Christie cross into the far corner of the net.
It set up a frantic final segment of the game, with both sides going close to getting a winner, but the spoils were shared.
“It’s frustrating. We were good value for our 2-0 lead at half-time and we caused them a lot of problems,” said Duff.
“We played some good football with penetration, which is what we are looking for.
“We found players in pockets and then getting forward from them, which is something we have been looking to get better at.
“So that and the two goals were a positive, but the frustration is we conceded from their first attack of the second half.
“They took energy from that, and having played with real intensity in our press in the first half we became a bit unsure.
“It went to 2-2 and we were re-energised and then it became an end-to-end game.
“We scored two really good goals, but the goals we conceded were poor. We cannot concede goals like that.”
