Michael Duff | Ben Cabango has potential to be a leader for Swansea City
Head coach Michael Duff believes Ben Cabango can become one of Swansea City’s leaders with the defender in contention to return from injury for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers.
The Wales international has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, but is fit enough to be in the selection mix for the weekend’s Ewood Park assignment.
His comeback adds to the competition for places in the centre of defence with Harry Darling and Bashir Humphreys having performed strongly in Cabango's absence, while Kyle Naughton and Kristian Pedersen are also available to Swans boss Duff.
And he has been impressed by Cabango during his time working with him so far, and feels the 23-year-old – who already has over 150 Swansea appearances to his name – possesses the qualities to be a leader for his club.
“I think Ben has been good, I think there is a leader in there. He is a young player, but I think he has got leadership qualities,” said Duff.
“He has been receptive to new ideas. In terms of defenders and the ways I want them to defend, he has been really open and tried to implement it.
“Ben has been great and he is the type of player you want to work with.
“He has got the physical attributes to be a good defender and he takes a lot of detail on board.
“For Ben it’s just about working hard every day and setting those professional standards.
“You don’t have to walk around shouting or headbutting a wall to be a leader, you can lead in how you conduct yourself.
“There are different ways to lead, but I certainly feel Ben can be a leader.”
