As Swansea City prepare to face Leeds United at Elland Road, we take a closer look at the Yorkshire club.

WHAT'S THEIR STORY?

One of the best-supported clubs in the land, Leeds are back in the Championship following a three-year stint in the Premier League that had ended a 16-year absence from the top-flight.

Having been promoted playing a swashbuckling brand of football under Marcelo Bielsa and making an eye-catching impression in the Premier League, the Yorkshire club ended up being relegated on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

In their history Leeds have won three league titles, as well as an FA Cup and League Cup, while they were beaten European Cup finalists in 1975.

Their last First Division title came in 1992 and they were a top-flight force around the turn of the Millennium, while reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.

They were within in ace of a Premier League return last season, but lost the play-off final against Southampton at Wembley.

HOW'S THEIR FORM?

Daniel James

Leeds have lost just one Championship game since the end of November, but their recent run of one win in four games has allowed Burnley and Sheffield United to close back in on them in the automatic promotion hunt.

No-one can match their potent attack, with the Yorkshire club's tally of 76 goals from 38 games being 16 more than any other side in the second tier.

They have lost just one league game at Elland Road all season, with that loss coming against Burnley in the early stages of the campaign.

WHO'S THE GAFFER?

Daniel Farke

Daniel Farke. Playing his entire career in the lower leagues of German football, Farke’s first managerial move came at the helm of his beloved SV Lippstadt, a club he joined three times as a player.

Taking over as manager at the age of 32, Farke led the club from the sixth tier of the German leagues into the fourth, before taking charge of Borussia Dortmund II when Thomas Tuchel was at the helm of the first team of the Bundesliga giants.

Placed in charge of Norwich in 2017, Farke came through a challenging first season at Carrow Road where he laid the foundations for their Championship-winning campaign in 2018-19.

They were relegated from the Premier League, but kept a nucleus of players who had been so effective two years earlier and he secured a top-flight return only to leave Carrow Road in November 2021.

He went on to manage Krasnodar in Russia and Borussia Monchengladbach in his homeland, before being appointed Leeds boss in the summer.

WHO'S THE CAPTAIN?

Pascal Struijk

Belgian centre-back Pascal Struijk joined Leeds United in 2018 and, having been a regular for the club's under-23s' side, made his senior debut against Hull City in December 2019.

Struijk started his career in the Netherlands, as a youth at ADO Den Haag before moving to Ajax in 2016 and later switching to Yorkshire.

The 25-year-old, who has represented the Netherlands at youth level, has been a key figure for the majority of his time at Elland Road having first had a run in the side right at the end of the 2019-20 Covid-affected season.

He's scored five goals so far this season, including a brace in the dramatic last-gasp victory over Sunderland.

WHO ARE THE KEY MEN?

Joel Piroe

Former Swan and Leeds United top scorer Joel Piroe has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season.

The Dutch forward scored on his Leeds debut last term against Ipswich Town, and went on to score 14 goals in all competitions that campaign as they reached the play-off final.

He most recently scored in the Whites' 3-1 victory over promotion rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, while he has also contributed six assists.

Piroe has spells with PSV Eindhoven and Sparta Rotterdam before moving to Swansea in 2021, and reached the 20-goal mark in each of his two seasons at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Another former Swan, Daniel James, has been another stand-out attacking weapon for Leeds this season.

The Wales international has been back to his very best, and has 10 goals and nine assists under his belt as he has displayed the mixture of pace and trickery that marked his senior breakthrough in SA1 back in the 2018-19 season.

Originally on the books of Hull City as a youngster, James joined Swansea at the age of 16 and went on to catch the eye under Graham Potter, securing a high-profile move to Manchester United in 2019.

He also had a spell on loan with Fulham, but has re-established himself at Leeds - who he joined in 2021 - over the last two campaigns.

While Leeds' attack has dominated the headlines, defender Junior Firpo has been a key figure in helping them concede the second-fewest goals in the division.

The 28-year-old Dominican Republic international joined the club in 2021 from Barcelona and has made 122 appearances since.

Born in Santo Domingo, Firpo's family moved to Malaga in Spain when he was six and he went on to join Real Betis at the age of 18.

He progressed to the first-team ranks before making the switch to Barca, for whom he made 31 appearances and won the Copa del Rey.
