Meet the officials | Preston North End
Josh Smith will be the referee when Swansea City travel to Preston North End this weekend (3pm kick-off).
It is just the fifth time Smith has taken charge of a Swans match. However, one of the previous fixtures overseen by the man from Peterborough was also against Preston. The Swans won 1-0 on that occasion with Ryan Manning on the scoresheet.
The most recent Swans match he oversaw was a trip to the Cardiff City Stadium in April 2022 with the Swans running out 4-0 winners with goals for Michael Obafemi (2), Ben Cabango, and Hannes Wolf. Six yellow cards were handed out that day, with four going to Swans players.
Smith, who is one of the youngest referees currently working in the EFL, made his Premier League debut at the end of last season when he took charge of a game between Fulham and Crystal Palace.
On Saturday he will be assisted by Matthew Jones and Sam Lewis. The fourth official will be Anthony Backhouse.
