Meet the officials | Norwich City
Tom Nield will be the man in the middle when Swansea City host Norwich City on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
Having officiated mainly in League Two and League One, Wednesday’s match will be the fifth time the west Yorkshire-based Nield has taken charge of a Championship match, and his first visit to the Swansea.com Stadium.
Nield, who is also a nurse, was added to the National List of Referees in April 2018 but less than two years later, Nield requested to lessen his PGMOL appointments in order to work additional hours on the front line in the acute and emergency service at the Mid-Yorkshire Hospital's NHS Trust as the country dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic.
While the Championship and Premier League returned to complete the 2020-21 season behind closed doors, League One and League Two voted to curtail their seasons and so Nield was able to focus fully on his head of nursing role.
Nield has continued working hard on the front line along with spending his evenings and weekends on a football pitch and is now being entrusted with Championship matches.
So far this season, he has taken charge of seven games, handing out 28 yellow cards and one red.
On Wednesday, he will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Matthew Jones. James Linington will be the fourth official.
