Peter Bankes shows yellow card

Peter Bankes will be the referee when Swansea City host Middlesbrough on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Working mainly in the Premier League, the Lancashire-born official joined Select Group 1 in the summer of 2019 and has taken charge of a series of Europa Conference League matches.

He began the current season with a busy couple of weeks. A trip to Sweden to oversee a match between Elfsborg and Molde was followed by a Premier League opening day clash between AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa, before he flew to Greece for a Europa League match between Panathinaikos and Slavia Prague.

So far this season, Bankes has overseen 26 matches, with five of these coming in the Championship.

Saturday will mark the 10th time he’s overseen a Swans match, with the most recent of these coming in April 2021 – a 1-0 home defeat to Preston North End in which he showed yellow cards to Marc Guehi and Jamal Lowe.

This weekend, he will be assisted by Edward Smart and Nick Greenhalgh. Ollie Yates will be fourth official.
