Meet the officials | Cardiff City
Josh Smith will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Cardiff City on Saturday for the south Wales derby.
The Peterborough-born official followed in the footsteps of his father when he picked up the whistle in 2006 to oversee a Peterborough and District Junior Alliance League game aged just 14.
Nine years later he was added to the EFL Assistant Referee list and completed three years before choosing to specialise as a referee. He received successive promotions and quickly returned to the EFL on the referees list.
He was put in charge of the 2019-20 Sky Bet League Two play-off final between Colchester United and Exeter City and, ahead of the 2020-21 season, he was added to Select Group 2 but did not take charge of a Swans game until earlier this season.
He has overseen three Swans matches this campaign: a 3-1 home defeat to Stoke City, a 3-1 away defeat to Fulham, and a 1-0 home win over Preston North End.
Across the three matches he has handed out a total of nine yellow cards with six of those coming in the match against North End. On that day, Ryan Manning, Joel Latibeaudiere and Korey Smith were booked for Swans.
In the current campaign, he has overseen 34 matches handing out 131 yellow cards and four reds.
On Saturday, Smith will assisted by Ian Cooper and Sam Lewis. Dean Whitestone will be the fourth official.
