Mawson: Focus the key
Alfie Mawson has called on Swansea City to remain focused throughout when they welcome Premier League leaders Manchester City to the Liberty on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side have dropped just two points in the league this season, and are now 11 clear at the top of the table following their 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester United on Sunday.
The Swans head into the contest with renewed confidence following Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, which moved them off the bottom of the table.
Nevertheless Mawson, who is set to make only his second appearance against the high-flying Citizens in the Premier League, is aware that the Swans are underdogs as they take on Guardiola's team.
“I used to think I’d only ever come up against the likes of Manchester City in a cup game, but I’m now doing it week in, week out in the Premier League,” he said.
“I’m very fortunate to test myself against the highest calibre of footballer there is.
“City are flying this season. They’ve got one of the best managers in the world. We’ve got to find a way to combat them.
“Every team is finding it hard and I’m sure it’s going to be a very tough game because of the quality and depth they have.
“We’ve got to be switched on for the entire game, as they’ll punish one lapse in concentration.”
* Supporters are advised to arrive early for Wednesday’s game. The Liberty Stadium car parks will close 15 minutes prior to kick-off.
Landore park and walk is open and park and ride options from Felindre and The Rec near St Helen’s rugby ground are available.
The Jacks Zone will not open for this game.
