Matt Grimes | We talked about sticking to the detail, and got the rewards
Captain Matt Grimes felt Swansea City had reaped the rewards of staying calm and focused after picking up a first three points of the season against Preston North End.
The Swans ran out 3-0 winners against the Lilywhites at the Swansea.com Stadium thanks to goals from Grimes, Azeem Abdulai and Žan Vipotnik.
The skipper found the net from the spot after a handball by Liam Lindsay, while Ollie Cooper’s strike deflected into the net off Abdulai on the hour.
Vipotnik then rounded off the scoring as he converted from Ronald’s cross.
It was the ideal response from the opening-day defeat at Middlesbrough, and Grimes was pleased with the reaction from Luke Williams’ squad.
“It was a brilliant performance and result, and I don’t think we could have had a better day for our first home game,” he said.
“It was massive for us to get the win, I didn’t think we were great against Middlesbrough last week and we made a lot of mistakes.
“But the talk had been about staying calm and making sure we stick to the detail and it has got us all three points.
“Preston are a difficult team to play against and they pose a lot of problems. They are direct and so we needed to stand strong against that, and we did.
“A first home game and a first clean sheet is ideal.”
