Matt Grimes | We have to cut out sloppy mistakes
Matt Grimes admits Swansea City were far too sloppy at West Brom, and paid the price.
The Swans saw their unbeaten away record come to an end as they were beaten 5-1 by the Championship leaders at The Hawthorns.
Head coach Steve Cooper described the defeat as being “self-inflicted” and four of the Baggies goals came from situations where Swansea gave away possession.
Captain Grimes acknowledged he had been among those to see an error punished after he was robbed in the lead up to fourth West Brom goal.
And he knows those sort of mistakes must be cut out if Swansea are to get back to winning ways when Blackburn visit the Liberty on Wednesday.
“I thought we created a lot in the first 20 minutes without them doing too much,” said Grimes.
“But the goals then came from sloppy errors like playing short passes when we shouldn’t have.
“We need to manage the game a little bit better. Individual mistakes and lapses in concentration – myself included – cost us the game.
“When you have players of their quality, you will be punished.
“In this situation you can either sulk and hide or stick your chest out and go and win those games, which is exactly what we’ll look to do.
“We need to put this firmly behind us and go again on Wednesday.”
