Matt Grimes | We are making positive strides
Captain Matt Grimes believes Swansea City’s performance at Sheffield United, and their disappointment at not taking anything from Bramall Lane, underlines that they are heading in the right direction under Luke Williams.
The Swans suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Blades as Josh Tymon’s unfortunate own goal proved the difference between the sides.
The visitors more than matched their hosts – who were plying their trade in the Premier League just a few months ago – particularly during a first half they were unfortunate to end trailing; with Myles Peart-Harris unable to convert a big chance just before Tymon’s own goal.
Lawrence Vigouroux made important saves for the Swans after the break, but the Welsh side ended the game pushing for an equaliser and, while Grimes insists no-one should be happy with defeat in south Yorkshire, he felt the display showed clear signs of progresss.
“It’s a disappointing result, no-one should ever be happy with losing, but I thought that was a decent performance from us,” said the skipper.
“We know this is one of the toughest away games we will have this season given the quality of the opposition, and I felt we matched them for the majority of the game and, on another day, we could have come away with something.
“I thought there were long spells of the game where we matched a side who were playing their football in the Premier League just last season.
“We were unlucky to go in 1-0 down, we had a really good chance just before the goal, but we have to dust ourselves down because it’s a very short turnaround before we go again on Saturday.
“We are making steps in the right direction, we have been since the manager came in, and we are going toe to toe with sides that many people are tipping for promotion. We need to stick to how we are working and keep making strides forward.”
