Matt Grimes | There are no excuses, we just were not good enough
Skipper Matt Grimes admitted there were no excuses for Swansea City’s lacklustre display at Hull City, and they will need to be much, much better if they are to end 2024 on a positive note.
The Swans were beaten 2-1 at the MKM Stadium as goals from Joao Pedro and Mason Burstow gave the Tigers the three points, with a Harry Darling header not enough for the visitors.
Swansea were uncharacteristically sluggish after putting together a solid run of performances, and Grimes acknowledged they cannot afford a repeat of that when they end the calendar year with back-to-back home games against Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town.
“We were not good enough, it’s as simple as that,” he said.
“Our intensity dropped way below the levels it has been at, there are no excuses for it and we have to take responsibility for that.
“We deserved to lose, we were sloppy and their chances were coming from our mistakes.
“There were actions where we gave the ball away in areas where we did not need to. We were not clean enough.
“We let the supporters down, it’s such a long way to come anyway, and then you throw in it being a 12.30pm kick-off and we just have not performed to the levels we have shown for much of the season.
“We now have to make sure we recover and get ourselves ready for Boxing Day, we have two home games to close out the year and we know we will need to do a lot better.”
