Matt Grimes | Swansea City ready for start of important period
Matt Grimes believes Swansea City will kick off a key period of the 2020-21 season when they host Rotherham at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
Steve Cooper’s Swans host the Millers as Championship action resumes following the international break.
It starts another frenetic run of fixtures that will see Swansea play nine games in just 28 days from this weekend up until Christmas week, with the traditionally busy festive schedule to follow.
The sequence of games over Christmas and New Year has always been viewed as an important time of any season, but the lead-up to that run of games means Grimes feels that importance will only be amplified this term.
“I think the Christmas period in any season is an important one, but that’s particularly the case this year because there are so many games,” said the Swansea captain.
“These are very much unprecedented times and I’m sure each club has its own plans to deal with it.
“We know we have a great team and support staff around us here, and I think it will be the club who has the best plan, and the best way to deal with it who will come out on top.
“We strongly believe in the way we work and the squad we have got, because this is going to need everybody as it will be nearly impossible to play every single game in this stretch.
“It’s new for everyone, but we will give it our best shot and it has the potential to be a defining period.
“If you can come out of this run of games with some very good results then it sets you up very nicely.”
